We need a little Christmas right this very minute soonish
I placed an order on Amazon.com December 1st. I only waited as long as the 1st because I wanted to make all of my purchases at once, so as to be eligible for the Free Super Saver Shipping. It seemed like a good day, though. It certainly wasn't last-minute, but I wasn't making my Christmas purchases in August, either. By the 1st I had a pretty good idea of what I needed to buy online vs in the store, so I made my purchase.
When I was done, I checked the order online and saw that the estimated delivery date was December 28-January 11. What the heck? If I am buying things from Amazon (and not one of their outside provider-people) that are listed as being in stock, how is it possible that it will take 27 days to complete the order? That is terrible! I ended up going back and changing the shipping options to the next-cheapest one, so they're now saying that it'll probably be here by the 24th. That's actually not any better for me because I'm leaving for Ann Arbor on the 21st or 22nd, but I'm hoping that they're just overestimating. This is impossibly ridiculous. What I'm hoping is that everything will get here very promptly and that they just dramatically overestimate the processing time so as to trick gullible people (like myself) into paying for shipping instead of getting it for free.
ARGH!

Amazon is pretty fast. I ordered some stuff last month and it shipped immediately, even with the super saver. What's weird, is I ordered some stuff yesterday and I didn't even have that late a delivery! Also, if it hasn't shipped, you should be able to change the address, right? Have it sent to your parents' house.

Yeah, I hate that about Amazon too. They are much slower than a lot of other places I order from. If they have the item in stock, why can't they just ship it the next day? I ordered on Nov. 24th and they still haven't shipped a couple of the items!

So where are they now in the shipping process?!?

I tend to do my internet Christmas shopping in January, because it's usually for people I don't see on Christmas, and having things on the actual day isn't one of those things I myself am hyper-anal about, so I project my nonchalance onto the people I give to. :P
Amazon Prime is fantastic, especially this time of year. Unlimited 2-day shipping for $79/year. They used to offer a free trial membership if you selected 2-day shipping at checkout (that's how I got roped in). Give it a try and see if they're still doing it.
