'When you sleep I will creep into your thoughts like a bad debt...'

For some reason, I decided to pull out one of my old mix tapes today, cleverly titled "Mix Tape #2" because it's the second mix tape I made. I listened to it a while, enjoying the music, then looked at the date. It's from 1994. How can this music be ten years old? Where has the time gone? I am old.

So here's what I was listening to ten years ago...

No way. I'm old too. Ah!

I prefer to think of myself as "youth impaired".

Your mixed tapes are way better than mine were. I'm still too embarrassed to dig them out...

now I have that song in my head, mmmmm :) Morrissey is yummy

I like the 2nd side -- "Zombie" is awesome :) So is the one by REM... i know -- i'm old, and older than you even... imagine how that feels.

gravatar MaTT - May 22, 2004 - 2:01 AM -

And i have such a short term memory that i was like "how did your mix CD have two sides?" then i noticed you said "tape" ... ahhh... i remember those things now :)

gravatar Jez - May 22, 2004 - 5:43 AM -

You think you're old? I remember a time when CDs didn't exist.

gravatar srah - May 22, 2004 - 8:42 AM -

I cannot fathom the elderliness present! ;)

gravatar l - May 22, 2004 - 10:07 AM -

What would I kill you for Tori Amos? I would kill you for "Linger" if I had to kill you for anything?

gravatar The Urstodian - May 22, 2004 - 11:11 AM -

I'd kill you for a few things on there, but not the Tori Amos or Cranberries....

And i would just kill you

gravatar srah - May 22, 2004 - 2:53 PM -

Neither of you have taken SI 502!

gravatar MaTT - May 22, 2004 - 3:45 PM -

Don't worry, i'll do it... that singer's name should never be uttered by any SI 502 student ever again. :)

gravatar Jez - May 22, 2004 - 5:25 PM -

Booo! Just tried to comment on your Livejournal thingy and it wouldn't let me!

gravatar Mer - May 22, 2004 - 11:21 PM -

1994. What were you, 12? :) Quit bitchin' about being old! Some of us are nearly 30.

gravatar MaTT - May 23, 2004 - 1:53 AM -

Who are you asking - me? I was 15 in 1994, and 25 now, which is older than a lot of my friends at U-M. So yes, i am 'the elder' in my little group :) But don't worry - at 30 you magically become young again, b/c then you can compare yourself to 40 year olds and think "heck, i'm way younger than them..." ;)

gravatar srah - May 23, 2004 - 7:33 AM -

She was probably talking to me (I was 13 and turned 14 in August 1994), but now you've set yourself up for insulting all of my 40-year-old readers! Ha ha ha!

gravatar Somewhat - May 23, 2004 - 10:13 AM -

Quit bitchin about being NEARLY thirty. Some of us ARE. Thank god for the 40 year olds round here making me look you.

I still don't believe that music can be ten years old.

gravatar Somewhat - May 23, 2004 - 10:17 AM -

Look YOUNG, obviously, that should say.

gravatar srah - May 23, 2004 - 11:40 AM -

Fight fight fight!

gravatar alfie - May 23, 2004 - 12:04 PM -

And then there's me. I was between the ages of nine and ten when you made that tape. Now, frighteningly enough, I am about to leave my teens. Ergh.

gravatar alfie - May 23, 2004 - 12:49 PM -

I remember a time when CDs didn't exist.

I don't. CDs were invented before I was born. I remember when our family didn't have any, but I've never lived in a world were CDs didn't exist.

gravatar 2-Re - May 23, 2004 - 2:45 PM -

Holy crap, Mr. Wendel.

gravatar MaTT - May 23, 2004 - 3:34 PM -

Cassettes were funny -- all these fancy terms like "hi-speed dubbing" and "auto-reverse", even "rewind" ;) And the stuff you had to do to them, like tighten the tape with a pencil (or your finger). CD's are too easy now... :)

gravatar Jez - May 23, 2004 - 4:17 PM -

...and then the tape would get caught up in the mechanism of the tape recorder and it'd take you ages to prise it loose.

gravatar Bob - May 23, 2004 - 10:20 PM -

Whatever bubbles, bubbles up.

I made a cd less than a year ago that
I put Lucas With The Lid Off on.

I'm not sure what that means about me.

Oops.

Me not so good with patience. I
panicked and hit the button twice.

Please disregard the second lame
message. That was an accident.

The first one, however, was totally
on purpose!

wow, that's a trip down memory lane. i was listening to the same thing then!
