Thrilling Wednesday night

Robin and I played Scrabble last night (I will refrain from metioning Rummikub because I was thoroughly trounced) and I won, with the two of us working together to find words like toile, zone and quo in each other's letters, and with a whopping winning score of 246.

After the game, Robin took a look at the box, which reported that a good Scrabble player should score at least 300 points.  Damned box.  What the hell do you know, anyway?  I'd like to see you do a crossword puzzle, Mr Smarty Smarty Board Game Box.

Now I remember why I play Scrabble on average once per year.

You actually keep score? We just play for word cleverosity. Sometimes we allow ONLY proper nouns.

Cleverosity. That would net you quite a few points. Or it would, if it existed.

I am hopeless at Scrabble. I´m always one letter away from a really good word, and I have to put a crappy three or four letter word instead. Harrumph.

I always have all the letters for a good word, and nowhere to put them. Once I get that word in my head, I can't see anything else in the letters.

Robin and I are going to take up Team Scrabble. We will help each other, keep one communal score together, then divide by 2 at the end.

Now I understand those emails I've been getting about Scrabble. You sound very bitter. I always liked playing where you make up a word and have to come up with a definition immediately or it doesn't count.

Everyone wins. That's the fun of it. I love making up words in Scrabble. Cheating-Scrabble is the only way to play!
