Song she brang to me

I'm not in a terrifically bloggy mood right now, but I have just noticed that I have blogged on January 23 every year since 2002. That's a pretty good record and I hate to blow it. I wonder how many other days that's true for.

So here's a musical meme for you, via J! Bloggity blog!

My Top 10 Most Frequently Played Tracks in iTunes
1: Simon & Garfunkel - "America"
2: They Might Be Giants - "Man, It's So Loud In Here"
3: The Beatles - "If I Fell"
4: Mathieu Boogaerts - "Sens"
5: Neil Diamond - "Forever in Blue Jeans"
6: Simon & Garfunkel - "Kathy's Song"
7: Billy Joel - "The Longest Time"
8: The Fifth Dimension - "Let the Sunshine In"
9: George Harrison - "My Sweet Lord"
10: Journey - "Don't Stop Believin'"

The meme continues after the jump with some questions about these songs...

I think I have "Bridge Over Trouble Water" on one of the first mixtapes I made, way back in grade school. I'm pretty sure we did sing in it music class, along with "Rainbow Connection," and the theme from Greatest American Hero.

We sang 59th Street Bridge in elementary school. It's weird, because I was actually just talking about that yesterday and how it's the first S&G I remember, although I'm sure I heard them before, too.

Don't stop believing should be on everyones Top 10.

I'm curious--which Beatle do you prefer?

That's right! I knew there was something we sang in elementary school!

I've seen a few other people do this meme and I'm surprised that I don't know a lot of their top artists, while mine are all incredibly mainstream (if old).

Looks-wise when they were young (Hard Day's Night/Help era): John then George then Paul then Ringo.
Looks-wise when they all started growing beards: None of the above.
Talent-wise: I've always said John, but I'm becoming aware of an increasing fondness for George.
Humor in the movies: John ("It WAS you buzzing, you naughty boy!"), Ringo ("The fire brigade once got my head out of some railings."), George ("Doesn't sound a bit like Cagney."), Paul. Paul isn't very funny!

I just watched Hard Day's Night and Help! two weekends ago and writing this made me want to watch them again!

That's sad. You'll never get to see George Harrison perform live. None of us will. Hmph.

Every time I do one of these memes I'm glad I do not have any New Kids on the Block on my iPod.

I for one am sad the meme did not get you to answer more Neil Diamond questions.

Also: SEPARATE WAYS!

gravatar srah - January 24, 2008 - 3:14 PM -

SEPARATE WAYS what?

gravatar katelin - January 24, 2008 - 6:16 PM -

What a fun meme! I love Journey, great top ten pick! :)

gravatar Elisabeth - January 24, 2008 - 8:11 PM -

I don't think I could do that meme. I haven't transfered everything to itunes, so my entire playlist would be Edith Piaf and the Wicked soundtrack.

And Journey rules!

gravatar J - January 24, 2008 - 10:25 PM -

SEPARATE WAYS is other song! And the best/worst video ever.

Oh, Journey. I did know that song, but I didn't know the title. It was just one of those songs that comes on the radio. Or plays in a bowling alley.

gravatar J - January 25, 2008 - 8:59 AM -

Hmmm...it may in fact be the quintessential bowling alley song.
