I'm not in a terrifically bloggy mood right now, but I have just noticed that I have blogged on January 23 every year since 2002. That's a pretty good record and I hate to blow it. I wonder how many other days that's true for.
The meme continues after the jump with some questions about these songs...
What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
The first? Ever? Am I actually supposed to remember this? The first I remember really liking was "Bridge Over Troubled Water." I'm wondering now if we didn't sing that in Music class in elementary school. I remember listening to my dad's Simon and Garfunkel record(s) in elementary school, but presumably I'd heard their songs passively before then.
What is your favourite album of 2?
I actually had to go and look through them because I couldn't decide. I guess I'm going to go with Flood, because I remember listening to that one over and over one summer, years after it was released. So that must be a sign that it's a favorite.
What is your favourite lyric that 5 has ever sung?
Joke answers:
- Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes
- Cracklin' Rosie you're a store-bought woman
You make me sing like a guitar hummin'
- Crunchy granola's neat!
- Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Soon, you'll need a man
- "I am," I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
- Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of bein' a king
And then became one
Well except for the names and a few other changes
If you talk about me, the story's the same one
Real answers:
- Well, she ain't the kind
Makes heads turn at the drop of her name
But something inside
That she's got turn you on just the same
- Maybe tonight
Maybe tonight, you and I
All alone by the fire
Nothing around
But the sound of my heart
And your sighs
How many times have you seen 4 live?
None. He's somewhere off in Belgium and I discovered him online.
What is your favourite song by 7?
I guess it would probably be "The Longest Time" but I'm also fond of "Just the Way You Are" and "Only the Good Die Young."
What is a good memory you have involving the music of 10?
Any time when people break out in song en masse!
Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
Even the sad songs seem to have something uplifting about them somewhere! The closest I can think of is "For No One."
What is your favourite lyric that 2 has sung?
Why do I listen to such prolific artists? Argh! So many to choose from! Although I don't know if the lyrics are really that important. I'm just going to go with "What's that blue thing doing here?" Or the entire song "They'll Need a Crane," which is really good but sad.
How did you get into 3?
I inherited them from my Beatles-loving parents.
What was the first song you heard by 1?
Erm, see above.
What is your favourite song by 4?
"Sens" because I only know two.
How many times have you seen 9 live?
None. And now I can't. :'(
What is a good memory you have involving 2?
I remember discovering them! I heard "Don't Let's Start" on the radio while driving around once and had to find out who this band was. Back in those days, you had to buy entire albums if you liked one song on them, and I discovered that I liked them. So I went out and bought all the rest!
Is there a song of 9 that makes you sad?
Can't think of one.
What is your favourite album of 5?
I only have Greatest Hits albums.
What is your favourite lyric that 3 has sung?
That question is insane. "Why don't we do it in the road?" Er... I mean...
- If I give my heart to you,
I must be sure from the very start,
That you would love me more than her.
If I trust in you, oh please,
Don't run and hide,
If I love you too, oh please don't hurt my pride like her.
'Cos I couldn't stand the pain,
And I would be sad if our new love was in vain.
- Here, making each day of the year,
Changing my life with a wave of her hand.
Nobody can deny that there's something there.
There, running my hands through her hair,
Both of us thinking how good it can be.
Someone is speaking but she doesn't know he's there.
I want her ev'rywhere, and if she's beside me I know I need never care,
But to love her is to meet her ev'rywhere,
Knowing that love is to share,
Each one believing that love never dies,
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there.
What is your favourite song of 1?
Uh... probably "America" since I seem to listen to it so much. Actually, "Kathy's Song" and "The Only Living Boy in New York" probably rank higher. I think I just listen to "America" so frequently because it mentions Michigan.
What is your favourite song of 10?
Wait... they have other songs?
How many times have you seen 8 live?
This question needs to stop coming up. Dave Matthews Band is almost the only band I've ever seen live. If it's not Dave Matthews Band, I probably haven't seen them live.
What is your favourite album of 1?
Again, I'm all about the Greatest Hits. The album I have is The Definitive Simon & Garfunkel or something.
What is a great memory you have concerning 9?
I really didn't discover George until after he died, when I went into celebrity-mourning mode and had to listen to everything he'd ever done. But according to Katie, all of my favorite Beatles songs are George Harrison's. I usually only connect him with the sitar-ones.
What was the first song you heard by 8?
Uh... probably "Let the Sunshine In."
What is your favourite cover by 2?
Cover? Do TMBG do covers? "The Guitar (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)" is the closest I can think of! "Hush my darling, be still my darling, the lion's on the phone."

I think I have "Bridge Over Trouble Water" on one of the first mixtapes I made, way back in grade school. I'm pretty sure we did sing in it music class, along with "Rainbow Connection," and the theme from Greatest American Hero.
