In news tangentially related to my last post, it recently occurred to me that when he sings, I am, I saidTo no one thereAnd no one heard at allNot even the chair Neil may have meant the chair... of the department¹. At an institution of higher education. Sometimes I feel that way, working in a university. ¹ Of course he didn't. He meant a chair that you sit on. Because he is the most insane greatest lyricist of all time. Love you, Neil!...

Once again, furiously blogging furiously has paid off, several years late. Important Decision Makers Of The World obviously read my blog, but are waaaaaay backed up on their feed-readers. The DREAM OF MY LIFE is about to come true, you guys, and I notice that none of my little bloggy friends have seen fit to notify me. Fortunately I have other spies who could feed me the information that TEH NEIL IS GUEST-JUDGING ON AMERICAN IDOL NEXT WEEK. Years and years of begging and pleading (passively, in blog-form) for American Idol to institute a Neil Diamond Week, and it's finally...

I'm not in a terrifically bloggy mood right now, but I have just noticed that I have blogged on January 23 every year since 2002. That's a pretty good record and I hate to blow it. I wonder how many other days that's true for. So here's a musical meme for you, via J! Bloggity blog! My Top 10 Most Frequently Played Tracks in iTunes 1: Simon & Garfunkel - "America" 2: They Might Be Giants - "Man, It's So Loud In Here" 3: The Beatles - "If I Fell" 4: Mathieu Boogaerts - "Sens" 5: Neil Diamond - "Forever...

I got up earlier this morning, full of vim and vigour and ready to start the day... but I didn't have anything to do except nag the properties manager/IT guy about my internet connection. I suspect that with people pooping in the Abbey, he has more pressing and important things to worry about than me actually doing work. Becky just bought a new coffee pot so she's offered me her old one to heat up water for tea. It took a minute for me to figure out how it worked and I ended up spilling water all over myself, my...

My latest thoughts on American Idol: I didn't realize they told us these things in advance, but according to the AI website, this week's theme is Elton John. Boooo! While I like Elton John and I think people could do interesting things with it, I have heard rumours about a Show Tune week and I am still praying for the Neil Diamond Extravaganza. If America were not smoking crack, the next people eliminated would be: Camile Velasco Jon Peter Lewis Jennifer Hudson Fantasia Barrino Diana DeGarmo John Stevens* Jasmine Trias George Huff ... leaving Latoya London as the winner. However,...
Is it a breakup if it never had a chance to get started?

I hate it when Neil Diamond has the words for my situation, because I don't want to become that person who endlessly quotes Neil Diamond, thinking that he's some kind of god of lyrics-writing when he really writes a lot of crap. Oh wait, I already am the person who endlessly quotes him, so I might as well keep going. I feel like The Neil is singing to me: But I got an emptiness deep inside And I've tried But it won't let me go And I'm not a man who likes to swear But I never cared For the...

(listening to Neil Diamond as I get ready this morning) srah: I always want to sing this "Sar... Saruman" instead of "Soo... Soolaimon". (pause) srah: I am such a nerd. Mom: Well, from what I've heard, you're in good company at SI. srah: This is very true. Hopefully Return of the King will come out after all of our exams are done. Otherwise we're in trouble! Mom: Why's that? srah: Because no one will show up for class the next day! Mom: Oh. Well, that's okay. Your teachers probably won't either. ––––– * thanks to Mr B------ for the nerd-assistance...

I really expected Saving Silverman to be just like all of the other gross-out buddy movies that are churned out every year, all of which seem to star Seann William Scott*. And yet it stood head and shoulders above the crowd of buddy movies. And why, you may ask? I can tell you in two words. And if you've already seen the movie, I think you know what those two words will be: NEIL DIAMOND. I don't think I ever would have thought to watch this on my own, but I got it as a birthday present from Robin. Five...

You know, as much as I talk about Neil Diamond, I'm not really a Neil Diamond Fan. I mean, sure, I own three Neil Diamond CDs, but I'm not one of those Neil Diamond fans... I like Neil Diamond in an ironic/humorous sort of way, and people who like him for real scare me quite a bit. The first musical artist whose albums I actively collected was Weird Al Yankovic. The second was They Might Be Giants. Then I was introduced to The Neil by Dave Barry. That should tell you something right there. Dave says of Mr Diamond's excellent...

It was the third of June On that younger day Well I became a man At the hands of a girl Almost twice my age - Neil Diamond, "Desiree" For those of you who moved back to France just to avoid watching this show, I will torture you with the latest: Leah is mean and no one likes her. She has a brother named Pascual who is in 10th grade and who comes to visit. Christina and Mallory fight over Pascual. Mallory and Simon (!!!) smooch around in a club ("You know, Simon, you're a really good kisser." "Thanks. You're...

Ever since I decided again that I want to write a novel, I've been coming up with ideas that sound so brilliant and innovating, I have to write them down. The problem is that when I walk away from them and come back a few hours later, I realize that they are the stupidest ideas anyone on the face of the Earth has ever imagined. Who the hell (besides Robin) wants to read a novel based on The Complete Works of Neil Diamond??? I think my dream will soon be abandoned again, only to resurface once more in a few...

Robin, Cheryl and I went to Meijers last night, blasting the Road Trip CD Robin burned, which contains all the music we enjoyed on our trip to New York. I bet that you do not own a CD with 50 Cent, R. Kelly, Sean Paul and... Neil Diamond. Continue the entry for full track listing......

Money talks but it don't sing and dance and it don't walk. And long as I can have you here with me I'd much rather be forever in blue jeans. Honey's sweet. But it ain't nothing next to baby's treat. And if you pardon me I'd like to say we'll do okay forever in blue jeans. I am in such pain. I've had this song in my head sans cesse for at least five days now, I think. I hope that by inflicting it on you and listening to something else, I can get it out. Pray for me....

Our return trip was rather uneventful, marked by some creative and dirty Mad Libs (the title of this post is one of the cleaner things that came out of it) and a profound lack of visits to llama farms. We did go through the Skyline Drive and see some lovely scenery, reminiscent of the Auvergne to those of us who had been there....

My friends and I are such nerds that not only did we not eject Cheryl's dad's Neil Diamond 3-CD set, but we listened, sang along, and totally got into it. In other news, I only brought two pairs of pants on this trip, so I will be Forever in Blue Jeans....
