Hop on pop!

Several weeks ago, Apete told me that he was addicted to Coke and wanted to quit. So I became his personal watchdog and yelled at him whenever I saw him with some.

Believe it or not, yelling is not an effective motivational tool. I think I learned this in my psychology class. Or perhaps that was electric shock. No wait, electric shocks are always good.

He was not very committed to the whole quitting thing until I made it into a personal challenge - like Let's see how long you can go without Coke. I decided that I would be encouraging and give up Coke myself.

Somehow this has tapped into his competitive nature (even if it is competition against himself!) and succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. I think it's been about three weeks now, but we're at the point where we're no longer counting the days and have lost track of the exact length of time. It's quite amazing.

I still find myself longing for pop every once in a while, but since I've quit, I've been noticing more media coverage about the evils of sweetened carbonated beverages.

Viva chocolate milk!

Soft drinks are evil and insidious. I am glad to hear you and friend have come back from the dark side.
