Uneducated guessing

Here is the extent of my knowledge/made-up facts about basketball: Tall people play it. James Naismith invented it. He was Canadian. Converse used to have contracts to shoe the NBA. Now they just shoe ninjas.

Here is the extent of my knowledge about the current state of college basketball: Division I college athletes are spoiled. Oh, and, um, I think Duke might be good. You always hear about them, don't you?

So, of course, it follows that I am not (if the NCAA asks) entering a NCAA basketball pool. Yes, that's it. Not entering. Go away, nice NCAA.

But I will share with you who I would pick if I were to be entering an NCAA basketball pool, which of course I am not. If you do not want to hear about college basketball or my expert justifications for the teams I picked (based on no information other than their names and current rankings), then read no further.

Big fan of Villanova

But . . .

I always root for Gonzago cuz I like to refer to it as Gorgonzola and I think they ought to change their names so they could be real cheeseheads and cause great shame to the Green Bay Packers which is a different sport and not at all affiliated with the NCAA.

U.J. has put his money on the Tar Heels. And that is as much madness as I can take.

But you've no posts on more burning questions . . who's your pick for "Idol"????????

FYI: Louisville is in Kentucky not Louisiana. and Eastern Kentucky is not a huge rival of Kentucky! UAB stands for University of Alabama Birmingham. UTEP is University of Texas at El Paso. And as a UM student and child from Michigan how could you pick any teams from Ohio and MSU? Your mother Noor would be very upset with you.

LA-Lafayette is in Louisiana, though, which is why I picked Louisville to win. I may know nothing about basketball, but I know a little about geography!

CURSES! Montana and Nigeria are already out. This ruins everything!

GO GONZAGA GO GO GO!

I get the feeling that it's very likely to be me or you who hypothetically (if this pool existed, which it doesn't) would get their five bucks back when this is all over for having the absolute worst picks - ! (and I didn't even look at who you picked) Or else maybe PKT - IC said he picked his teams for this (non-existent) pool based on which team's mascot he thought could beat up the other one. . . .

That was one of the finer selection brackets that I have ever seen. I always wanted to see the logic that went into one of these. Go ZAGS.

Montana actually outscored Washington in the second half...but lost anyway, given that they'd fallen behind by 17 in the first half. We TOTALLY could have beaten Gonzaga or Nigeria, too.

J - I hold you personally responsible.

Jeremiah - I like that you have so much faith in me that you decided I was going to get the IMAGINARY five bucks back without even looking at my picks. I like PKT's idea, but it seems like it would require a lot of research.

For the record, I calculate that I got 10 out of 16 right today! This is because I have psychic powers!

I *am* personally responsible, but in an insoluble and untraceable way. Bwah-ha-ha!!

gravatar alfie - March 18, 2005 - 11:38 AM -

You were right about Milwaukee. Eeek.

gravatar srah - March 19, 2005 - 3:14 PM -

OH GOD, Texas Tech. I have to go cry my eyes out now.

gravatar alfie - March 21, 2005 - 10:23 AM -

You were right about Arizona over UAB, Oklahoma over Southern Illinois, Louisville over Georgia Tech, you picked the correct teams in the North Carolina/Iowa State game (just the wrong victor), you picked Villanova to win (even if you said it would be against Ohio), Wisconsin to win (although you said over Kansas), you picked the right teams but the wrong victor in NC State v. Connecticut (Mom was cheering for NC State, sorry), Duke did beat Mississippi State, MSU did beat Vermont and you once again picked the right teams but wrong victor in the Cincinnati/Kentucky game.

My right side of the bracket is doing better than the left...

UAB = University of Alabama at Birmingham
