What is DEET, exactly?
My favorite part of yesterday's Michigan Daily:
"... recommended precautions include wearing long-sleeved pants and shirts, and to use insect repellent containing DEET, an insect repellent."
- West Nile virus found on campus
(Interestingly enough, this article from 2001 has similar recommendations as regards the length of your pants sleeves.)

That's great! That's about as bad as anything EVER written in the Kent Stater. Last week, there was an article with the headline "Drunk Drivers Beware!", about a DUI police post somewhere in Kent. I easily interpreted this to tell me "Drunk driver? Not this weekend!"
Also, what's the point of a post to catch people if you're going to notify them of it? Although they still caught 12 people.

I can't get over this headline: Hospitalized student blames gym towels
The article isn't as amusing as the headline, though:

It's a paste made of the ground-up dead bodies of other insects which repulses the live insects and keeps them off your skin ;)
No, it's the chemical 'N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide' which has been an amazing bug repellent for decades. It was recalled sometime in the 80's for health concerns, but now it's apparently been retested and deemed 'safe once again'. So, use at your own risk, but it works really well. I used to use it when i was a kid, and just look at me now :)
