Girl talk

After requesting I requested that Colin Firth be invited along on our English Holiday, Jez says,

"I don't know why women like him so much, anyway."

Have at it, ladies. What is it that we like about him?

Someone once asked Louis Armstrong what jazz was. He said, "if you have to ask, you'll never know". I think Jez's question gets the same answer.

I didn't request that Colin Firth came on our English holiday! In fact, he's barred from coming, no matter how much he begs.

gravatar Mommy - August 5, 2004 - 7:36 AM -

His brother's cute too.

gravatar alfie - August 5, 2004 - 7:38 AM -

Whoops. That was, of course, me.

gravatar Jez - August 5, 2004 - 8:15 AM -

Who's his brother?

gravatar srah - August 5, 2004 - 8:56 AM -

Oops, yes, I phrased that very badly.

gravatar John - August 5, 2004 - 9:34 AM -

Jonathan Firth, as seen on A&E's "Victoria and Albert".

gravatar jamelah - August 5, 2004 - 9:54 AM -

mmmm. colin firth.

that's why.

gravatar Court - August 5, 2004 - 10:09 AM -

It's the reindeer jumper. Rowr....

gravatar alfie - August 5, 2004 - 5:44 PM -

Agree with Jamelah and Court. Yum.

He also appeared as Joscelin Lucy on Brother Cadfael, "The Leper of St. Giles."

gravatar soo - August 5, 2004 - 6:42 PM -

haha raindeer jumper.. I also like when he wore a simple white shirt =)

gravatar srah - August 5, 2004 - 6:44 PM -

I think it has something to do with him being stern and aloof... but having a dazzling smile when he eventually does smile.

gravatar Cheryl - August 6, 2004 - 11:05 AM -

I know I'll get all kinds of harassment, but I agree with Jez. I've never understood Sarah's obsession.

gravatar srah - August 6, 2004 - 11:17 AM -

Have you seen Pride and Prejudice? That might explain it. I never got Becky's obsession until I saw the gratuitous-pool-jumping and tramping-about-dripping-wet and hair-curling-deliciously-after-jumping-gratuitously-into-pool scenes... :9

gravatar a p&p fan - August 6, 2004 - 12:28 PM -

it's the fact that we can forget how silly wearing breeches and tall boots can actually look because we are distracted by said smile, hair, and wet shirt-wearing. although i must say it is colin in the riding coat that always catches me off guard ;)

gravatar srah - August 6, 2004 - 4:15 PM -

Is that the greenish-black one that he wears when he goes for the walk with her aunt and uncle? Because if so, INDEED.

gravatar alfie - August 6, 2004 - 5:15 PM -

Woohoo! Guess you'll have to spend a weekend with me after school starts watching my copy of P&P. Yum!

He's Darcy^2. Twice the stern aloofness and dazzling smile. :9

gravatar srah - August 6, 2004 - 5:54 PM -

I hope the anonymous p&p fan is Helen Fielding, who is - of course - ALWAYS reading my blog.

gravatar a p&p fan - August 6, 2004 - 11:45 PM -

alas, no- i am not the ingenious helen fielding. but that woman deserves a monument somewhere...only after ms. austen has one of her own, of course. and as to the riding coat: it can be any coat, really. and the green one is nice, but I am especially fond of the grey, full-length (hence, a riding coat)one that he wears throughout the film. yummy.
(p&p fan? addict more like...my name is Lori)

gravatar Mer - August 7, 2004 - 7:19 PM -

It's the smoldering glares in P&P

gravatar alfie - August 8, 2004 - 1:01 AM -

The only thing in that movie that really bothers me is the floating heads, but the head is his, so it isn't too bad. It's just kind of startling. Someone's looking in a mirror and his head is there. Someone's looking out a window and his head is there.

gravatar Jenny - August 8, 2004 - 10:13 AM -

I agree with Jez too - Colin just doesn't do it for me.

gravatar jday - August 10, 2004 - 12:52 PM -

Oh my. I actually purchased "what a girl wants" (silly teeny bopper movie) solely because he is wearing leather pants in that movie! For 3.7 secs. RRRRrrrrrrrrrr.

gravatar alfie - August 10, 2004 - 10:27 PM -

LEATHER PANTS! COLIN! DANCING!

Yay! It's all wonderful!

gravatar Jez - August 10, 2004 - 11:13 PM -

*shudders*

There will be no leather-clad dancing this weekend, unless we bump into Mr. Firth at the local disco. Not that we're going to a local disco.

gravatar alfie - August 11, 2004 - 12:06 AM -

I think the awful dancing plays a part as well. He seems normal. But unavailable. And hot.

gravatar srah - August 11, 2004 - 3:55 AM -

Maybe Mr Firth will be touristing in leather pants. MAYBE!

gravatar patricia - August 12, 2004 - 6:12 AM -

i love colin for his mind of course, but hot damn, yeah that pond scene rocks muchly. the man is hot, whether he's wearing breeches or reindeer sweaters.
