Pizza and pop
My friends at school love that we say "pop". No, not really. Today is a movie night for the grad students, with "pizza and pop" served before. This is like the slogan for the Grad Student Senate, (Srah, please please please work on their website, they don't even have a list of events up!). Every function is accompanied by "pizza and pop". But Ally and Joanna are from the east and west coasts, not respectively, so they say soda. They hate the word pop. I told them within the next 5 years, they'll start saying pop. I'm really gonna push it. And being from the midwest, I sure am going to throw in the incredibly nasal ah sound right in the middle!

How about . . . 'soda pop'?
See, I really am a peacemaker at heart.

It's not just the midwest and Canada. Here in Oregon, we say "pop" too. My sister who moved to California has gone over to the dark side, and says "soda" now.
Pop. That's what one does to a bubble. Or bubble wrap. Or Srah's dreams. It is something that happens to you when you eat too much. Or it is a sound you hear when your tire goes over a nail. In the world of Dr. Seuss, it refers to your paternal unit - something to be hopped upon.
It is not a consumable.
