We thought about naming him Barry Manilow because he's sappy

I find it odd that I wouldn't have already blogged about this but I can't find it in my archives...

When I was younger, everything had to have a name. Names were very important to me. When I saw a dog on the street I would ask my mom what its name was and she would have to make something up.

When I was three or four, my best friend, Nathan G-----, got a new rocking horse. My first question was, of coure, 'What's his name?' Nathan hadn't given much thought to this question and told me the rocking horse didn't have a name. I insisted that he had to have a name; everything had a name. Finally he gave in and told me that the horse was called "Horsey G-----." I was not appeased, because this was a name, but it was a stupid name and lacked any kind of creativity.

Our family's cars have always had names (right now we're driving Dan and Charlie). Our computers have names (mine are Maximilien and Isidore). And our Christmas trees have always had names.

There have been a lot of Christmas trees over the years, so I don't remember a lot of the names. I believe there was a rather short, wide one called Porky and perhaps a Porky II. I think you will not be surprised to learn that I have not outgrown my obsession with naming things. This year's tree is called Colin.

Because he's a Fir.

Ahem.

Love it...Colin the Christmas Fir(th) Tree. It has wings.

It's Charley. I'm the one who named him and I specifically named him C-H-A-R-L-E-Y, not C-H-A-R-L-I-E.

You encourage me! I wouldn't like him half as much if you didn't hate him!

Dan is called "Dan the Van" and our previous mini-van was called Mickey because it was a Minnie-van. *snort!*

When I was younger, we had two cars know affectionately as Drop Back Ten and Punt.

My current vehicle is a battered (as in, it appears to have once gotten caught in a hailstorm) monstrosity painted a color that always appears filthy even when freshly washed. Since the license plate includes the letters "CUR", we call it the Dirty Dog.

I feel like I have heard that story about the horse. Where else would that have been?

Real life?

Speaking of Colin Firth, if you cut him in half and then cut one of those pieces in half, what would you have?

A Fourth of Firth!

HA! No, I've read it. I think you're plagerizing.
