First tuna, now Spam®
The 9-down clue in today's crossword was "Flipper". Mr B------ and I had filled in 22-across ("Teacher, at times") as "MASTER" and were trying to find a "Flipper" that fit into "SPAM--A".
We toiled endlessly until we finally had to admit to each other that the reason we couldn't come up with the answer was that we were both hung up on the idea of filling it in with "SPAMINA". What is spamina, you may ask? We have defined it as one's ability to eat large amounts of Spam® over a long period of time.
Spamina has nothing to do with flippers, of course, unless dolphins are big fans of canned meat. As it turns out, the "Teacher, at times" was a "TESTER" and the "Flipper" was "SPATULA".

And it was all innocent fun before I took it too far.
Perhaps they are not big fans, but until the last couple of decades, dolphins could -be-, actually, canned meat. Chicken of the sea, indeed.
