Soolaimon

First of all, and I hate to disappoint everyone, I'm not as obsessed with Neil as Srah. But she did just sent me an email singing Soolaimon (and I don't know if I'm spelling it right or not, but I also don't care. Please correct me if you must), so now it is running through my head.

Ok. So I am going to flashback a bit. And I realize my blogs are going to be chock full or "so", as I said it twice in my first entry.

As part of my program at Kent, I am teaching undergrads. I don't know whether to call this TA (teaching assistant), GA (graduate assistant), or GSI (graduate student instructor). I think here at Kent we definately don't use GSI, that was a Michigan thing. Anyway, I'm already way off track!

SO, yesterday was my first day of teaching the kiddies. That's my idea, that's how I deal with them. I am used to coaching little kids in the JPA, so I am going to be thinking these kids are 10 instead of 18. Let me continue. I was talking about evolution and natural selection and we were doing exercises based on this. One of the exercises was about retinoblastoma, a fatal eye disease in children, where the die without medical care. The children in the example did not have medical care, so it was fatal. I warn you, it's a bit more than morbid, as it is probably based on a real situation. This is what I drew on the board:

One stick girl with pony tails. A stick boy with a bow tie. No faces. Then I proceded to draw a cross above her head and a tombstone above his. Then I drew another boy and girl. "And they're holding hands", said I, "oh, and they're flying a kite! Cause they're not dead."

There's your science lesson for the day. By the way, that's an example of natural selection.

Of course, now I have "Let's Go Fly a Kite" stuck in my head.

This is an excellent story. You have my approval to continue using Srah's blog. And you needed my approval.

Well I'm glad that that was only my second blog then. I wouldn't have wanted to write THOUSANDS and then find out I was unapproved. There'd be all sorts of paperwork with that one, I'm sure.
