Attack of the Clones? More like... Attack of the Bong!

Heh heh. Title has nothing to do with anything, except Gobie on SNL.

Yup, so we went to see it this weekend. We took the French archives intern with us, so when they were making comments about the Jedi Archives and things like that, we were making archives-jokes and our row was laughing when no one else was. Heh heh. Family full of archives dorks.

I liked it! I agree with the Free Press that the romantic scenes were painfully bad, but there was a lot to enjoy in there, especially for the geeks. Plenty of references to future events and previews of things to come in Episode III. I actually have some hope that the Prequel Trilogy will be watchable. So my verdict is: excellent for the fans, okay for everyone else. As it should be. Nyah.

Here's the thing, though... I think that for all intents and purposes, they could have started here, or at least combined Episodes I and II. What did we really get out of Episode I that couldn't have been explained with a little dialogue? He was a slave? Whoopedy doo, doesn't seem very important, so far anyway. He's had a crush on Padme forever? Whoopedy doo. If they'd just started with them already together, we could have skipped over all of the embarassing romantic stuff, like Anakin molesting Padme's shoulder and spilling drool all over it. "Sand is so rough and coarse. Here, every thing is soft and smooooogllaaaaaaaaaghhhhh..." Seriously, if I were her, I would have run away a long time ago. Sure, he's pretty good-looking and very intense, but he's also obviously insane.

Oh, and my answer to #3 on last week's Wednesday Whimsy has changed. I have decided that the sexiest Star Wars character, much better than either Obi-Wan Kenobi or Han Solo is... Yoda. Mmmmmm, Yoda. Are you going to think less of me for having a crush on a Muppet/digital character? His toes are very cute.
