Floo powder power! Floo powder power! Floo powder power!

30 Days of Harry Potter - day 22: Favorite mode of transportation (apparition, broomstick, floo powder, etc.)

The Hogwarts Express is probably my favorite mode of magical transportation, although there's nothing about it (that I can think of) that makes it particularly magical. It's also a form of transportation that seems to only run between King's Cross and Hogsmeade¹, so it's unusual in that respect. In terms of everyday transportation, I would pick Apparition. In thinking about my answer to this question I ruled it out at first, because it's a little scary and potentially dangerous. On the other hand, when I was a 15-year-old Muggle learning to drive, that seemed scary and potentially dangerous as well. With enough learning and practice, driving is no longer scary and is instead practical, so I'm guessing that Apparition could be the same. It would be so awesome to get places quickly without having to establish Portkeys or find a Floo-enabled fireplace. If I could Apparate and do summoning charms, I think my life would be totally awesome (and totally lazy).

¹ It's not really covered in the books, but I imagine there must be young witches and wizards who don't take the Hogwarts Express, and get to Hogsmeade in some other way to meet up with those coming on the train. It would be bizarre if Scottish wizards and witches had to get down to King's Cross in order to take the train back to Scotland. That said, with Portkeys and Floo Powder and all that, it wouldn't take a long time if they had to do so.
