Harry Potter and the Snakes and Snails and Puppy-dog tails

I don't think this is a spoiler, because it's said in one of the early chapters and isn't very surprising: Dumbledore briefly mentioned that the Dementors were breeding, something that made both me and my sister make a strange face when we read it. I hadn't really thought about the Dementors having sexual organs or any gender at all. Alfie explained her confusion thusly:

"There are female ones? I always associated them with being male because they suck the happiness out of everything."

Srahmom put her two cents in, wondering what a baby dementor would look like, being pushed around in a pram on Sunday morning. "Oh, what a darling baby! And he looks like he wants to give me a little kiss..."

I'm sorry, I don't know this....henry potter? what is this, exactly?

gravatar lia - July 18, 2005 - 2:34 AM -

Did they really say that at some point? I missed it somehow, maybe I should reread all 5 books before getting into the 6th. And the explanation for them being male? LOL + *sigh*

The part about them breeding is in the 6th book. They don't ever talk about it before then, that I remember.

Yup, sorry I misread, Monday early morning and all that

Ew. And, haha!

But still, ew.

Is it a movie of some kind? Or a comic book? I don't understand...

Chrispy, Henry Potter was the colonel on M*A*S*H. Being a fan of this once-great TV series, I made the same mistake. HARRY Potter is the world-famous horticulturist. I just got his new book and have great looking rhododendrons popping up in my backyard. Amazing the extent that people will go to for nice flowers these days. Geesh.

Once-great? It's still great!

Does the passage specifically refer to inter-sex breeding? If not, have you considered mitosis? Or budding? Perhaps they are unigendered, but they lay eggs?

gravatar srah - July 20, 2005 - 10:41 AM -

ACK! Maybe they lay eggs inside you, like some kind of tropical bug, then they come bursting out of your skin!

I think that's nice that you've found friends who like your Heddy Porter plant books Sarah. That's very nice.

Regarding M*A*S*H, I was merely calling it once-great because it no longer occupies a timeslot on a standard television network. I realize that it does live on in syndication though and; therefore, shall remain forever great. Please accept my sincere apology.

Trivia, RE Heddy Potter: Heddy is my grandmother's name - it's short for Hedwig. Her last name; however, is not Potter. Those crazy Poles!

Wow, Tony. Three times apologetic...I'll have to accept. *grin*

Srah, should I assume you have or have not seen Alien? Because if you haven't, you seriously should. Then imagine the alien is a dementor.

gravatar srah - July 21, 2005 - 10:48 AM -

Hedwig is Harry's owl! Get reading, Tony!

I haven't seen Alien, but I've seen plenty of parodies of that scene!

gravatar katie - July 21, 2005 - 4:17 PM -

Hehe. You should see it.

Yeah, yeah...these new fangled computer contraptions are hard to work.

Funny, I wonder how my grandmother's night vision is.

Maybe Andy will let me borrow his book (and glasses) when he is done.
