¡Maldita vampira!
In the end, it was not salmonella that killed me, but rather exposure to the sun. I stood outside the entrance to the Château de Chaumont, handing out 10% off coupons for the bed-and-breakfast that our company bought a few weeks ago, in a panicked last-ditch attempt to get people in the rooms before The Big Cheez (our president) arrives on Friday.
I will be interested to see if this new marketing scheme is at all fruitful, since I was passed by a total of about 60 groups/couples, most of whom were either local, already had rooms for the night, or didn't speak enough French or English to understand what I was talking about.
So the rewards reaped from three hours of flyering may consist of... the sunburn I got on one shoulder because I missed a spot with my sunblock. Oh yeah, and the enormous, horrible headache I got from the sunshine. It was so bad that I had to tell my supervisor I was going to take off from work to go sit in the dark for a while. This turned into a two-hour nap-break in the middle of the afternoon that still didn't completely cure it but at least got me to the point where I could open my eyes enough to look at a computer screen.
In a way, I hope that our efforts worked, because the B&B needs all the help it can get. In another way, I hope they don't work at all, because it might influence the Powers that Be to abandon this plan before I have to go out again next week.

I hope you are feeling better now. Everyone has left for Mackinac. I am at the conference.
Don't they advertise with local tourist offices? The Loire is tourist central. There's no reason why the place shouldn't be full every night!
