« Hello, world!

Is it not... INVISIBLE?

Soon after Alfie turned 16, she bought a 1987 VW Golf from a friend of the family. She never managed to learn to drive a stick-shift, so she ended up buying a Saturn automatic a couple of years later. So the Golf has been sitting in front of our house ever since. We've been hoping we could sell it to some poor high school student in order to get rid of it, but it's a piece of junk, so no one's been interested. So there it sits. Or sat.

My parents came home from work today.

"You're home!" my father pointed out, surprised.

"Why wouldn't I be?"

"Where's the Golf?"

"The Golf?"

"It's not in front of the house... we assumed you had problems with the other car, so you took that one."

We've stared out the window several times and unless it's been miniaturized or invisiblized, it's not there. It's funny, because most people would freak out if they discovered their car had been stolen or towed or dematerialized. We're just kind of wandering around the house, scratching our heads and wondering if we should bother calling the police, or just be relieved to be rid of it.

Dude, where's... ah, nevermind.

If they thought you had driven it somewhere I'd have to assume the vehicle is insured... I'd at least phone and cancel that so you could get some money back!

We are going to make sure that it didn't roll down the hill and then we will report it stolen. Do aliens ever take cars?

People will steal the darnedest things...

Torch the thieves, Meatwad.

Turns out it was towed as an "abandoned" vehicle. Apparently it was ticketed on Tuesday then snowed over so we didn't see the ticket. It seems there's a law in Ann Arbor that a car can't sit on the street for more than 48 hours. Interesting that they towed it all of a sudden. Methinks the neighbors were too cowardly to approach us and very kindly stuck us with a fine to pay instead.

Idiots. That car has been there for like three years. That and everyone in that neighborhood parks on the street for huge amounts of time.

It's been on the street for three years? And you get a ticket now? How many police officers do you have in that town, anyway?

gravatar kate - January 16, 2004 - 12:08 AM -

It's probably related to the snow.. you know, that white stuff covering the street? The police are much better at finding cars that need moving when there is snow everywhere.

gravatar srah - January 16, 2004 - 12:20 AM -

Yes, but it was supposedly ticketed before the snow.

gravatar katie - January 16, 2004 - 8:38 AM -

Yes, but didn't you have snow last winter? And the winter before that? And before that???

gravatar srah - January 16, 2004 - 8:55 AM -

Yes. That's why I think the neighbors ratted us out.

That's kind of funy. I own 3 VW golfs (85, 86 and another 86) and would gladly pick up another one to toy with. Maybe I'll look for one on the street that looks abandoned and just tow it home. :-P haha Odd thoughts...
