C'est le temps que tu as perdu pour ta rose qui fait ta rose si importante
I am such a nerd. No one else seems to like them at all, but I get really excited about my Social Systems and Collections readings and lectures.
On Friday, the professor was talking about the impact of artefacts on memory and the social character of "individual" memory (Radley, p. 48*). That is to say, different objects or words will mean different things to different people based on their own experiences, à la Proust's madeleine or in the way that everyone seems to come up with strange and different Unconscious Mutterings answers that never would have occurred to me.
One example that he gave for the second topic was that people in Ann Arbor, upon hearing the word "Victor" automatically have a different reaction than other people would. I had a moment of my own this morning, when I saw the message COLUMBUS = GENOCIDE chalked onto a wall near West Hall.
That's funny, I thought. Why would they get so excited about that now? That isn't until November 22.
