i'd like to report a stern grifting
They stole my dollar.
One of the grad students made a Dunkin Donuts run, and offered to pick us all up some stuff. So I gave her a dollar and asked for 2 donuts. Another of the ladies gave her a gift card for a dozen donuts, to share with everyone.
When the student returned, she had the box of dozen donuts. They were for everyone. I looked puzzled. "Shouldn't there be 14?" I said. "No, we just got the dozen because it was easier."
I tried to politely hint at the fact that, in that case, I should receive my dollar back. No dice. They haggled about the donuts, I tried to hint again. Still no dice. Finally, I knew that if I tried again I would look a little greedy, because I think they thought I wanted all the donuts.
I want my dollar. YOU STOLE MY DOLLAR!!!!
UPDATE (4:35 PM)
The student who bought the donuts left. She mentioned over her shoulder that there were a couple of donuts left, and us office ladies could have them. I promptly marched upstairs and grabbed the whole box (there were 6 left!). I'm taking them home with me. Nyah nyah, and night night.
