ladiosa dellago has made a suggestion for the word I was looking for: jingoism. Definition:
Extreme nationalism characterized especially by a belligerent foreign policy; chauvinistic patriotism.
I don't know if it was exactly what I was looking for, but it's about the closest we've come so far.
