Yesterday it was my turn to sit on the reference desk during tea. ARGH. It's one of my least favorite things to do, because I know even less about reference than many of our researchers.

Yesterday, there was a long line of researchers that only seemed to grow and to have questions I couldn't answer. One was angry because he wanted a photocopy. Others were visiting from New York City and needed information on some exhibit that we didn't have and that I'd never heard of. Others wanted to do research on topics I didn't know anything about.

Even one of the researchers described my calls to the kitchen as "plaintive".
