about srah

Here is some background information that might come in handy while reading my weblog.

Name:
My name is Sarah, but my friends call me "Srah".  Or "srah".  Or "SRAH".  Variations on a theme.  There isn't really a common nickname for Sarah, so this is what my friend Grace (Gra') came up with in high school or middle school or whenever it was.  It didn't stick until college, but now most people who I've met since 1998 know me as "Srah".  Sometimes it's strange to me when people call me Sarah.  My mommy gets upset when people call me "Srah" in front of her, but she also doesn't like people calling my sister "Becky".

Age:
I was born August 26, 1980.  You can do the math if you're really concerned about my age.  I am a Virgo and a Monkey.  Not that I really go in for that stuff.

Location:
I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Michigan is a mitten-shaped state in the American Midwest and is surrounded by the Great Lakes.  Lansing is the capital and Detroit is the biggest city.  Ann Arbor is the home of the University of Michigan, the Hash Bash, and the Ann Arbor Street Art Fairs, as well as the birthplace of Borders Books & Music, Iggy Pop, and Domino's Pizza.  Among other things.  I graduated from Ann Arbor Huron High School in 1998.  We were the River Rats and you can't say anything about that I haven't already heard.  I'm proud to have been a River Rat.  So there.

France:
I spent my junior (third) year of college studying at the Centre Universitaire d'Etudes Françaises in Grenoble, France.  It was an excellent experience and I hope to someday soon have a website up about my various adventures there.  For now, you can read this little blog-summary here

Albion:
I am now a senior (fourth and final year) at Albion College in Albion, Michigan.  My major is French.  I am the president of the International Student Union.  I am in my second semester of Spanish, so I occasionally try out what I can manage to say in my blog.  I live with a roommate who is also named Sarah, although I usually call her "Roommate

Boyfriend:
I have a cute little boyfriend named Alex, who is also referred to as El Patito, El Chilenito, El Pollito, El Pololito, or Boyfriend.  He is 19 years old (yes, he is more than two years younger than me, yes, I am a cradle-robber), comes from Copiapó, Chile, and is a freshman Anthropology/Theatre major.  I met him when I was the SOAR (Student Orientation and Registration) leader for the incoming international students.  He is the first serious boyfriend I've ever had so the whole experience is rather new and strange for me.  It's a learning experience.

John Hannah:
I am the manager of a fan site for my favorite actor, John Hannah.  I met him this summer because he happened to show interest in my site just at the time I was about to take a trip to the UK.  I hope to have that story online sometime soon too.

Career Plans:
I will be graduating in a few months, but I don't know yet what I want to do with my life.  I have applied to teach English in France next year.  If I get the job, that will delay the decision-making process a year longer.  I like to provide information to people but I'm not sure what field I want to do it in.

Likes:
I like languages, I like linguistics, I like to travel, and I like learning about new cultures.

Blogging:
I've never successfully kept a journal before, but I've been blogging since October 2001.  I think it's a really cool new Internet trend and very helpful for me.  I hope to be able to stick with it for a long time.

If you have more questions, please check out the rest of my site or leave a question in my guestbook.
