Never mind me, I'm just out of touch with reality.

I watched this video ("TeaToday Feb 7, 2008 - How to make a great chai latte") months ago, and just now found myself sitting on the couch thinking, "I should look that video up again and find out what brand of chai he used, because that stuff was really good and tasted as good as the stuff you buy at the store or Starbucks." EXCEPT I'VE NEVER TASTED IT. I just watched someone else tasting it and somehow transferred it to myself. Let me tell you, in my mind, it was delicious....

Once again, the clue to the musical is in the picture, not in the title. I think this one might be a little harder than last time, but what do I know?...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40k7SkXi3Rc I just came across this video on the preparation of absinthe (how do I find these things? I don't even remember) and it reminded me of our parties back when I was living in Vichy. I tasted some absinthe at one of those parties, but it didn't make much of an impression. For one thing, about 4.5 years later, I don't remember what it tasted like. For another thing, even when I came home from the party that night, I blogged about tequila and Michigan accents instead. It all seems like so much work, with the special flatware and...

It occurred to me this morning that my breakfast came from a musical. So you get a visual clue today instead of lyrics. I'm shaking things up around here. Guess away!...

I just discovered a blog entry that I wrote down on my way back from Acapulco and forgot to publish. It was over-dramatic and therefore worth publishing a few weeks late. Here goes: Here let it be known that on this, the twenty-second of June, two thousand and seven, I did experience the most egregious trespass of the Srah Tea-Making Code that I have come across in my long (although now probably shortened) life. The offender in this case is Harold, a Continental Airlines flight attendant who did, with malice aforethought (whatever that means) put milk and sugar in the...

Dear The Tea Industry, I really don't like drinking my tea with the tea bag still in it. I thought it was just that I don't like my teabag and milk to touch, but now that I have been forced (by Science!) to branch out and find a tea that I can enjoy without milk or sugar, it turns out that my craziness extends to drinking the tea while the tea bag is still in it. Restaurants and cafés never provide them, so what you should do, The Tea Industry, is to market a line of tea bags that come...

First my dentist had a problem with me drinking sugary tea. Now there are reports that milk cancels out all those health benefits that we, the tea-addicted, were happy to hear we were accidentally getting. I can't help but feel personally persecuted by Science. Curse you, Science! Why are you out to ruin my daily (or several times daily) cuppa? If it isn't Science who's at the bottom of all this, I suspect it's all a conspiracy by the mint/oolong tea industries to get me, the main consumer of all the tea in the whole world, to switch away from...

I went to the dentist yesterday for the first time in almost two years (I know, I am a filthy horrible person and I am ashamed) and learned that I have some cavities (I am even more ashamed, thank you). At least she didn't say anything about gingivitis. The dentist said that from the type and location of the cavities, she could deduce that they were probably caused by drinking sugary liquids... liquids like... tea with sugar. She's like House! She said that I didn't necessarily need to stop or even cut down on the tea or the sugar, but...

I have discovered the joys of Bowling Green, Ohio! On my way home this weekend I set off with half a tank of gas just so that I would have an excuse to stop in Bowling Green. A little birdie named BobaFind had told me that there was bubble tea to be found there. I had planned to take my aunt out for bubble tea while she was in Ann Arbor, but I forgot all about it until after she'd returned home. No bubble tea for Aunt Pat and no Ann Arbor bubble tea for me, which only made me...

When I was growing up, my parents had to force me to drink milk. I would avoid it all through dinner but then I would have to finish the glass before I left the table. I would hold my nose and chug it down. I knew it was good for me, but I don't like the taste or the smell or the consistency... I don't know what I don't like about it, but I just don't like milk. A small glass (just enough to wash things down) goes well with brownies or chocolate chip cookies, but I hate it with...

Right. Haven't blogged in a while, so I guess I'd best do so before I lose the touch. I'm in a foul, cranky mood today, which I thought might be improved by Putting Food In Me*. I had some extra time, so I went to Amer's on the way to work. While waiting in line, I actually looked at the menu instead of mindlessly ordering a chai as I usually do. They had something called Dharma Bums, which I'm almost positive also exists at the Amer's on Church Street, but with a different name. It's half hot milk, half Earl...

Last night in my Stephen M. Ross Business School of Business and Hey This Guy Ross Gave Us A Crapload Of Money class, we were talking about employee satisfaction, morale and rewards. Some of the things in our reading were just embarassingly stupid, like suggesting that you should go to clown college because people like managers with a sense of humour (CLOWNS ARE NOT FUNNY) or give out buttons that say "Caught caring!" when an employee does something thoughtful. I wanted to throw up because it seems so forced - like David Brent trying too hard to be the cool,...

My head hurts. I've just realized that I can't remember drinking any tea since Sunday. I remember boiling the water several times, but I never got to the stage of making or drinking the tea. So this headache may be from withdrawal. I am treating it now. Because of my headache, I have skipped out on a presentation I was going to go to at the Business School. So I put on my Business Casual Grown Up costume for nothing. Bah! Well, I'll have fun looking like a Business Casual Grown Up Laying Around The House And Moaning About Her...

Guess what? I have insane compulsions. I bet you were in no way aware of this. I, myself, am sometimes unaware of my own compulsions until they are pointed out to me. Apparently it is strange to threaten someone with bodily harm when they try to add the milk to your tea before removing the teabag, without being able to explain exactly what it is that you find so distasteful about the two touching. It's just wrong! It just is! Who would do such a thing? GAH!...

Note to self: Espresso Royale has the worst, most expensive and possibly smallest chai tea latte of all the coffeeshops in close proximity to West Hall. I don't know why you manage to forget this so often and waste $2.50 on sludge rather than paying $1.95 for something rather nice at Amer's. I don't know either how ERC's chai manages to be so awful when it seems like every place in town just uses Oregon Chai from the carton. Perhaps they blend their own monstrosity rather than trusting the experts. De toute façon, avoid at all cost. Try to remember...

I got up earlier this morning, full of vim and vigour and ready to start the day... but I didn't have anything to do except nag the properties manager/IT guy about my internet connection. I suspect that with people pooping in the Abbey, he has more pressing and important things to worry about than me actually doing work. Becky just bought a new coffee pot so she's offered me her old one to heat up water for tea. It took a minute for me to figure out how it worked and I ended up spilling water all over myself, my...

Belgian thee met melk report: level three. The milk was forgotten by the server, and there were lemon slices on my saucer. This merits a ranking about equal to that of the United States. Of course I am basing it on one experience and I don't know if the results would be any different in Bruxelles or Wallonie. Did you notice that "tea with milk" is one of the few Dutch words/phrases I've picked up? Dank u wel for noticing; yes, I am an addict....

It's the day of the Commerce students' big project. They have decorated the school like an English street and brought local merchants in to sell British wares. It's a bit surreal that in addition to the electronic humming bell we usually have, we also have a recording of Big Ben to announce the breaks between classes. If we are so English today, why can I still not get a cup of tea? Teeeeeeeeeeeeeea....

Last night Alex and I watched Star Wars: A New Hope and I fell asleep. Shame on me. The Special Edition definitely has better sound quality, although you have to put up with a lot of silly additions for it. Watching the first scene with the ship appearing from the top of the screen made me think that Star Wars movies belong in a theatre. I miss Norris 101 movies. Jillian and I are drinking all of the Earl Grey in Baldwin. Mwah ha! Another convert to the World Of Tea Addiction! Marian needs to get his own AIM account...
