I'm celebrating with a traditional Burns supper this evening, except that instead of haggis I'm having pizza, and instead of whisky I'm having water and instead of reading poetry and toasting and dancing, I'm going to the movies. But other than that, you know, quite traditional. You may all celebrate by watching this lovely Scotch-themed episode of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. It is... The American Way. I mean... it is The Scottish Way. Hoot mon!...

4 days. When I went from Grenoble to visit my roommate in Aberdeen last year, we had quite an adventure. We had a train to catch at 6am. I was up and ready at 6am, but I hadn't considered the thought that the first bus goes by around 6:03. For some reason I couldn't get the phone to work properly and couldn't call a cab to the train station, so I went to the nearby phone box, and I couldn't get my phone card to work. What was I going to do? I was going to let Cheryl down and...

Orphans

Orphans is a lovely Scottish film about four adult siblings dealing with the death of their mother. It stars the delectable Douglas Henshall (who you wouldn't know from anything), the dad from Billy Elliot, and Magnus from Rushmore. I don't know why I was thinking about it, as I saw it over a year and a half ago. But one of the most amusing things is that when it was released on video in the US, they subtitled it for people who couldn't handle the accent. Hee hee hee....
