It's a little hard to see in a small version like this, but in the middle of this picture, there's a man with his chin resting on his hand, waiting for someone to come along and buy the clothing and whatever else he has on his table. I went shopping with the Urstodian today. She needed to go to Target, so I took her, intending to be only the chauffeur. Ursula needed socks, so we went to the sock section. She immediately picked up some socks. I, on the other hand, pored over the hosiery selection and oohed and ahhed over socks and tights and things. I ended up picking up a pair of pink "modal" knee socks. What is a "modal" knee sock? What is modal about knee socks? I have no idea. Why would I need pink socks if I don't have pink clothing? I...

Srah is not a nerd! Srah is a trend-setter! I like to wrap a scarf around my head instead of wearing a hat. It doesn't do as horrible things to my hair, and I like to think it makes me look exciting and dramatic like a movie star, when really it makes me look like a mémé. I've decided to change the French language. I'll start, and the rest of you follow, okay? All together now, allez hop! ... oh. No one? Fine, I'll have to do it all by myself. Whereas we have only one, the French have two words for "scarf". A foulard is a gauzy, drapey thing, often made of silk. An echarpe is a warm winter scarf. My problem is that no matter how many times I tell it, my brain refuses to absorb these words because it feels wrong. To me, the word echarpe sounds elegant. It sounds like "sharp", which is...
