I tried to call Alex in Mexico, thinking that this time I wouldn't be silly and try to speak Spanish to him. Problem being: Alex wasn't there. Don't know who was, but she didn't speak English. Ella: Lksjro;isjeofjsoiejfisejfliisje;lifje Yo: May I speak to Alex? Ella: ¿Lkjw;oeijfowe;jfioweinfwe quien? Yo: ¿Con Alex? Ella: ¿Ljolsijeofisjifjlisejflseijflisje assistantes liwnelinwleifniwe? La polola española

I called Alex in Mexico the other day, and he answered the phone. "¿Puedo hablar con Alex, por favor?" "Está." "¡Hola!" "Ehhh... hola. ¿Quien es?" "¡Soy La Sarah!" He didn't recognize me speaking Spanish. I'm assuming that's a good thing, like I've made progress or something. He didn't say so, but-- HEY! I'll assume what I want, buster! I have decided to declare next week (Monday to Friday, anyway) La semana española. I am going to make an effort to blog a few sentences of Spanish each day next week, just to keep in practice. Would you like to join...

Now that I am in the bus, I am starting to feel guilty for not waiting at the airport until Alex's flight took off. What if something goes wrong and he doesn't leave after all?! But if I had stayed, I would have broke down and bought myself a cup of Airport Tea, even higher-priced than Train Station Tea, although perhaps not surpassing Tea Bought On a Train. I feel guilty now. WHAT HAVE I DONE? My little Pato may be stranded all alone in a strange airport, all because I wanted to save 2€50. Pourvu que tout se passe...

I am reading The Lord of the Rings (well, The Fellowship of the Ring at the moment). I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that we saw The Two Towers in Grenoble (in English!) or that I am just happy to have something new to read, but I am enjoying it more than I have on previous attempts. Maybe it's the fact that I read the Prologue and discovered that the book began as a linguistic guide to Middle Earth - a way of explaining all of the languages in The Hobbit. Speaking of the...

I'm tired of being alone, so hurry up and get here

Sheri's request in the Great Inspiration-Fest was for pictures and poetry and prose singing the praises of The Pololo. I'm afraid to get too gushy and go on and on, but I would like to say that I have the Best Boyfriend in the World. I often find it a shame that I've got him all to myself, because it seems rude not to share something so wonderful, which I have done nothing to deserve. I'm sure Alex would like to be shared as well; he's a man-whore, but he's my man-whore - charming and loved by everyone he meets,...

Oh for heaven's sake! Weekend plans not bad enough in song? Try haiku! To Angers I go to see Antoine, our former assistant français. I don't know what there is to see in Angers but I guess I'll see it. The Loire Valley is full of castles but I don't think he lives in one. He lost my number and called Alex but Nasko answered as usual. Poor Nasko, Pato's receptionist. At least he speaks to France often... Antoine and srah will commiserate, both having cheris far away. Between le Mexique and le Chili, he and I should practice Spanish!...

Pato Potter

My Pato has sent me pictures, including this one of him in costume as Medvedenko in The Seagull. He got to wear Harry Potter glasses and I think he looks more like my mental image of Harry than Daniel Radcliffe does. This is not something I normally would have thought about my boyfriend, and it is really rather troubling that I should be attracted to Harry Potter. Anyway, Alex is incredibly adorable and ALL MINE. So there. My own pictures from Vichy should be coming along soon, as they're in the United States being developed at the moment......

We are getting all duded up tonight and going out to dinner. Becky is taking Alex to her prom and the whole family's going out to dinner together at Palio before the dance. Kind of an unusual arrangement. They've invited me to get dressed up as well. I can pretend I'm back in high school again. Not that anyone won't believe it... This will be quite a week! Prom on Monday, graduation on Thursday, graduation party on Sunday and srah and Alex leaving next Monday!...

Alex got me a plant for Valentine's Day. It's sort of like a little rose bush with little roses in a flower pot. I've never had a plant of my own before to have to water and care for. I'm frightened. I don't think I'm responsible enough to handle it. I don't know what it wants and it won't tell me. Am I watering it too much? Not enough? What kind of plant is this?...

Just went to Kmart with Alex to pick up his Western Union transfer. Four things about it were quite interesting. 1) "Do you have any kind of identification besides this passport?" - I get that you can't read Spanish. Maybe you don't even know that that is Spanish you're reading (see speaking Chilean). But passports are accepted at borders the world over and I should think they would be enough for Kmart. Anyone who's ever seen a passport knows that they generally have the same information on them, so just ask the bearer to point out which is the expiration...

I hate studying for my Spanish tests with Alex

I hate studying for my Spanish tests with Alex. Either I am lying and I actually do like it, or I am just really dumb and forget every single time that I hate it and go back to doing it again the next time. Somehow it always results in Alex doubled over in laughter with tears streaming down his face. Is that conducive to learning? No. Alex is a chuleta de cerdo....

Mystery solved - the cracked-out villain is Becky herself. BlueMountain has their design-your-own card thing and Becky's on drugs. We went to Olive Garden for dinner and spent almost the whole time playing "Connect Yourself to Celebrities" and various other variations on "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon". I will share some later. Alex stole the sea

Alex stole the sea from Bolivia and licked it so they wouldn't want it back. Bastard! I think I am the most visual learner in the whole entire world. Do other people visualize words written out when they say them? Probably not. I'm probably insane. I have had the phrase "Puedo borrar?" ("Can I erase?" in Spanish) in my head all morning. I think I'm going to start beating it against the walls....

I wonder how much time I waste every day. Not that it's really that wasted - I like to relax. I don't like to be stressed. Durned American lifestyle. Yesterday, Alisha as much as told me I don't exist as an individual - I am just Alex's Girlfriend. Well gee, that was nice. Rather painful and frustrating, actually. I love Alex... but I love me, too. I think my English Language test went well. Tests are better than papers....
