Summertime... and the parkin' is easy...

Summer is held at the wrong time of year. In Srahtown in the summer, there is suddenly an abundance of parking available. You can arrive late and still get a good spot. You can leave during the day, come back and park in the same spot... or a better one! It is glorious! Vive l'été! This is not the case the rest of the year. The rest of the year, there are fierce battles over parking spaces, with shivs and chains and tridents and suchlike. Academics in their tweed jackets and elbow patches hold their Very Academic Pipes in one...

This is an outrage!

I wanted an egg salad sandwich, so while out running errands on my lunch hour, I swung by The Place Uptown That Sells Egg Salad Sandwiches. Unfortunately there was no parking available anywhere near TPUTSESS so after driving around the block three times, I gave up and bought an egg salad sandwich from the student center cafeteria. It was half as expensive, but not half as good as the egg salad sandwich from TPUTSESS (and I would have gotten a pickle from TPUTSESS!). 'And then after the smoke is cleared/ and the rubble has been swept away/ me and KG will peek out our heads'

I spent half an hour sitting at a computer in the Undergrad Library this afternoon and trying to manage my piles of email. Committee-organized events may just kill me. I was sidetracked from what was supposed to be a quick blogging session about being short and ended up staying in the library for about half an hour, meaning that I was out longer than I'd paid for parking and I had a parking ticket. Parking tickets in Ann Arbor are $10 but they're $6 if you pay it within one business day. So I drove off to City Hall, parked...

Back in my day, we appreciated a little dirt in our falafel!

I ran late today and had to find parking on central campus rather than parking on north campus and taking the bus in, as I usually do. I ended up parking at a meter, shoving in piles of dimes and quarters in order to pay for the hour I had class, then moving to free on-street parking after class was over. Unfortunately, class was over at 10:00, so parking was limited by that time. I ended up in a residential area and had to walk thirty miles in the freezing cold, in six feet of snow, uphill both ways to...

Shoppers without Borders

What is the point of a strike if you're only going to strike at one store in a chain? I understand that the downtown Ann Arbor Borders store is the original and the largest in the world and therefore a good target for picketing, but it really confuses me that it's life as usual at the much better, convenient-to-parking store across town. Is it okay to shop there, then? Is it the downtown Borders or the corporation itself that's trying to screw over its workers? Why aren't they complaining on Washtenaw? I bet the downtownies have to pay for parking...
