I went to Chicago last weekend! I am very slow at writing these travel-weekend writeups, and even moreso when I spend the week trying to catch up on sleep. Fortunately, the weekend is almost here, so I can clean, claim I'm going to clean and then not clean, and - most importantly - sleep. I drove up to Chicago for Lewis's birthday celebrations Saturday afternoon/evening. It takes about 5 hours to get to Chicago, although it took me a little longer because - no matter how good my directions are - I always second-guess them and get lost when I...

Would you like to support the ex-roommate of a Huge (Tiny) Internet Celebrity in her athletic endeavors and donate to a good cause at the same time? Of course you would! Dearest Friends and Family, You may want to be seated when I tell you this...but I, of non-athletic fame, will be running a MARATHON this year! That's right! I will be participating in the Chicago 2007 Marathon on October 7, 2007...running 26.2 miles! I am taking part in a six-month training program and I am running a little farther each week...in total I expect to log nearly 500 miles....

Alrighty, I would say it's high time I blogged something, especially since I am going to be away and conferencing all this week. I went to Chicago last weekend and had lots of fun visiting Roommate (who you may remember as a star of my blog about five years ago) and Bob. My pictures are here, Roommate's pictures are here and Bob's weekend commentary and captions on Roommate's pictures are here. We also saw a lot of stuff, considering that my hosts asked their visitor what she would like to do in Chicago and she said, "I dunno. What is...

Here it is Thursday and I'm finally getting around to blogging about this weekend. I think I have some kind of block - I keep sitting down in front of the computer and thinking I should write, but not really wanting to. Sigh. Anyway, I went off to a wedding in Chicago this weekend with Apete. As I've put off the blogging this time, it will have to be a series of sentence fragments strung together because I really can't bring myself to write something cohesive. What the hell is wrong with me? Saturday Ate waffles. Got in the car....

Unchronological, disorganized thoughts from my weekend in Chicago with Jez: My hair and I can never live together in Chicago. If I were to be employed in Chicago, we would have to be parted. (My hair is normally parted, but in this case, it would have to be parted from me.) The Windy City is, indeed, quite windy. My poor head. We went to The Melting Pot for fondue on Sunday night. Mummmmmnummmyummmy. Bread, apples and vegetables in cheese. Seafood and vegetables boiled in oil. Evurrrrrrthing dipped in chocolate. 'Twere wonderful. You know what's funny? Museum space exhibits that list...

Thanks to smg's Quintessential Burn CD, I have had When You're Good to Mama from Chicago in my head all morning. I can hardly think of someone less appropriate than myself to sing things like, They say that life is tit for tat And that's the way I live. 'Cause I deserve a lot of tat for what I've got to give. Oh wait, I can think of someone: my old friend Mrs Nobody. Yes, I am five. Who let me come to work today?...

In case you were wondering, as I was, what the heck the foreign murderess is saying in Chicago, IMDb has the answer: "Mit keresek én itt? Azt mondják, a híres lakóm lefogta a férjem, én meg lecsaptam a fejét. De nem igaz. Én ártatlan vagyok. Nem tudom, miért mondja Uncle Sam, hogy én tettem. Próbáltam a rendõrségen megmagyarázni, de nem értették meg." which means: "What am I doing here? They say my famous tenant held down my husband and I chopped his head off. But it's not true. I am innocent. I don't know why Uncle Sam says I did...

Our in-flight movies were Chicago and Maid in Manhattan, both of which I had already seen and neither of which I had particularly liked. Unfortunately I finished my book about two hours into the 8+ hour flight, so I was forced to watch. If you are interested, Maid in Manhattan was better in French....

My parents left this morning, so I spent the day gavering myself on English-language cinema. I saw The Magdalene Sisters, which was very dramatic and moving, and Chicago, which had a lot of nice singing and choreography, but was a little light on the plot and clothing....
