You Are the Music, Parte the Firste

I am running late for Tiff's latest CD Swap, but I thought I would post the beginnings here, with a question for all of you! The theme of this swap was: Have you ever watched a movie or a TV show and though, "wow, this music is really great!" Or, more commonly, "this music is so distracting! Why are they playing Nickelback, I think my ears are bleeding! I could’ve totally done a better job." Well here’s your chance. And you even get to pick the movie. The way many of us interpreted this was "Put a whole bunch of...

Not that I have a crush on Tiff. It's all part of the NaBloPoMo game, folks. ... or is it¹? Anyway, it's time for Volume 2 of Tiff's Great CD Swap. I found myself unable to make one good mix CD of love songs, so I've made two bad ones instead. The first follows my November theme, and the second one is full of the most clichéd and/or sappy love songs evar. Read on for playlists! ¹ Yes, it is....

Another post about music! At least it's not a dream. Tiff recently announced a CD Swap where the theme was "My Favorite Songs from the Past 10 Years." I assembled my playlist, then found that it was 63 songs long. Sigh. So I had to do some pruning. Here's the final tracklisting of the CD that's going out to Tiff on Monday (hidden in the extension in case she doesn't want to be spoiled):...

it's cd swap time everyone. get excited!the theme this time is music that you loved and/or was popular when you were in high school.frinstance: i was in high school from 1994-1998, so my cd would include things like pearl jam and bush and no doubt because they were popular at the time. it would also include u2, paul simon, and simon & garfunkel because i liked them when i was in high school. get it?this will only be fun if more than 16 people sign up, so pass the word around. Arsesome! Rules and sign-up information are here. Since this...

Point the first: I am lazy and was out of town this Sunday-Tuesday, so your CDs have not gone out yet. However, I hope to get them all burned (burnt?) tonight and in the mail tomorrow at lunchtime. I am ambitious and busy like that. I have no idea what I'm going to eat for lunch, though. More troubling. Your CDs may be et¹. Point the second: Since this mix was supposed to be THE MUSIC YOU ARE LISTENING TO THIS VERY MINUTE, I found it a bit difficult. I am only listening to one song at the moment, and...

K has a new CD swap going on. You should all get in on it! "Well, every good CD swap (and every mediocre one too!) has a theme, and so does this one–woot! Basically, I’m in the mood for some really random, new tunes, and I always fall in love with my own random songs-I-can’t-stop-listening-to-for-this-week-only! mixes, so I’d love to swap discs and see what everyone else is absolutely in love with right this second. The list might not contain any of your all-time faves, and it might even be kind of embarrassing, but it’s the stuff that for whatever...

If you'd like to discover some new music, come and swap CDs at the Great Ann Arbor Mix Swap this Friday at 8pm at Leopold Brothers'. If you're going to come, please let the organizer know so that he'll have enough CDs to go around. I just hope my playlist will be eclectic enough - I've tried to include bands that I've only recently discovered and some French music I assume people won't be familiar with. Read on for my track listing (don't peek if you're coming - it might drive you away!):...

It's time for another Neurotic Fishbowl CD swap: Burn It - The Summer 2005 Edition. "I live in Texas and it is freaking hot outside. Driving to a friend's house yesterday I passed a digital thermometer that said 106°. That's freaking hot. "In honor of the blistering Texas heat, this Burn (appropriately enough) is about hot music. And by this I mean music so sensual, so sexy, so scorching (like all the s words?), that it makes you hot, just like you too were out in the Texas sun. This would be the music you would want playing in the...

I've shied away from online CD swaps for about a year now, after having some bad experiences last year where I received zero or one CD from a group of three or four swappers. But I decided to give it a try on Neurotic Fishbowl's latest: "Music that makes you want to roll down your windows/open your sunroof/put down your convertible top and sing along at the top of your lungs." Read on for my track listing if you're interested (swappers, spoil it at your own risk!). Yes, I am a dork....

Today's the last day to sign up for Neurotic Fishbowl's latest CD swap. After a year away from these things (last spring, I had a lot of people in my groups who didn't participate) I've decided to give it another try because I like the theme: Music that makes you want to roll down your windows/open your sunroof/put down your convertible top and sing along at the top of your lungs. It's spring time and I want music that makes you feel good. It doesn't haven't to be a happy song, but it does have to be great music to...

"Everyone has brought at lease one movie soundtrack in their lifetime. (or downloaded a few). Admit it. You may not be a fan of the movie, but you bought the soundtrack. To hear that one song. Maybe it was the one that played to death on radio... or maybe it a little song that no one noticed, but you feel in love with. Sometimes.. the movie soundtrack can be a melting pot of undiscovered tunes.. ......So what a great cd swap this would make! To make a cd mix of your personal favorite songs from the movies." Burn It! - The Winter Edition: "I was thinking of making this theme all about melancholy music (winter being a time when lots of people get the blues). tj suggested making it a SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) mix which fits both the melancholy music and the season. So, for this theme, music that you listen to when sad or music that makes you blue should be what you're shooting for. It could be the lyrics or just the way that the song sounds." Get on over there and sign up if you're interested in participating!...

Remember the Quintessential Burn? Well, the idea of burning a CD with all of one's favorite songs is a heckuva lot easier than actually doing it. By restricting it to my absolute favorites - the ones I have to turn up and sing along with at the top of my lungs despite the protests and screams of all present - I managed to get it down to 107 minutes. So unfortunately, some great ones had to end up on the cutting room floor. I'll be burning them this weekend and sending them out on Monday. Read on for the playlist...

I'm compiling my track list now for The Quintessential Burn. Sign-ups continue until September 15 if you're interested in getting in on this CD swap. I think the best thing about this one is that there is no particular theme... it's just your absolute favorite songs. So far I have 10 or so songs... and that's just the English-language music. It'll be a shame when the time comes around to start cutting it down to 80 minutes....

Did you miss the Neurotic Fishbowl Burn It! CD Swap? Are you interested in another music-sharing opportunity? Brian at Cyber-Cowboy.com is hosting The Quintessential Burn: This one is gonna be the music that you absolutely can't live without. You know, those songs that when you hear them, you stop everything, and listen to them. Those songs that caused you to kill the tapes when they were on tapes, or scratch up the CDs so bad they can't play anymore. Or hell, scratched up the record albums so bad the needle would stick in one spot for 30 minutes. I've already...
