Anarchists?

At the hospital yesterday, the doctor asked my mom what she did for a living. "I'm an archivist," she replied. And of course, as usual, my mom had to explain what an archivist is and what they do. I realized then how lucky I am to be at SI. All my life, I've had to explain what an archivist is. When I told my first grade teacher that my parents were archivists, she tried to convince me that they were architects and I was saying it wrong. All of a sudden, I have a huge group of friends and acquaintances who can be told that my parents are archivists... and they actually know what that means!

My good friend is an archivist! Small world.

My husband often needs to explain that although he is a textile conservator, this does not make him a conservative, and then explain what he really does to the masses of blank faces.

Damn those people who take non-traditional roles.

Society just isn't geek-friendly these days... *le sigh*

I tell people that I'm an Interaction Designer (or at least I will be when I've finished up all those stray credits), and I always get the same "Huh?" look. What the? I think it's pretty self-explanatory. Or maybe I'm just a big IT bubble snob...?
