Harveys in America

My most recent Harvey ancestor to immigrate to the United States is my paternal grandmother, Lilian Ethel Harvey.  All of her ancestry is English - from Hampshire, Wiltshire, and the Isle of Wight.  Family surnames on my Harvey side include Harvey, Withers, Gregory, Warder, and Kernott.

During World War II, my grandmother worked in the Land Army (women who worked to keep up production when the men left to fight in the war), then became a civilian employee of the Royal Air Force, and later was transferred by the RAF (against her wishes) to work for the U.S. Army.   She met my grandfather, James McNitt, just after the end of World War II while he was in France serving in the U.S. Army.  She emigrated to the United States by ocean liner in 1947.  Grandpa met the boat at the docks and they were married in New York City before going to Michigan where they would live.
